To date I have tested 47 different providers to see who can really deliver the best Team Fortress 2 Server Hosting.

In recent years most of the servers that you can join have been split into two categories.

Casual servers that allow you to play against easier opponents and have a more relaxed match or competitive servers, where talented and experienced players come together to fight it out.

Since the “Meet You Match” update was released it seems to be more limited to these two game types on Valve run servers, however many community servers have been set up with modded game play and content to give players a different experience.

Community servers differ from host to host but you can find official game modes including payload and capture the flag.

Unofficial servers however have more flexibility, you can play death runs and Jump maps which are way more fun in my opinion.

My Best TF2 Community Servers List

If you are looking for the best community servers to join, I have put together a list of my top picks based on the servers I have joined this year.

1. Server Name: [TheOutpost][GA] 24/7 Freak Fortress 2

TF2 TheOutpost

Player Capacity: 24

IP: 64.94.238.63:27019

Have you ever wondered what boss fights would be like in Team Fortress 2?

Well thanks to the “The Outpost community” you can do just that.

With the use of the Versus Saxton Hale game mode players can now work together to take down an overpowered boss.

At the start of the round a boss will be selected from the players in the server and the remaining players will need to work together to defeat the boss but this won’t be easy.

The boss has increased health and some special abilities that it can use to pick players off.

Teamwork and coordination is the key to success on this server.

2. Server Name: JumpAcademy.tf | Dedicated Server | US

Jump Academy Server

Player Capacity: 32

IP: 31.186.251.212:27015

If you want to improve your rocket jumping skills the Jump Academy’s server is perfect for novice and advanced players.

The community has a huge roster of talented players that are willing to help you learn and practice your skills across a variety of maps.

Community members regularly stop by the server to check if players need help and will give you advice.

The server is more of a teaching platform rather than a game mode as such.

3. Server Name: skial.com | DEATH RUN | US

Skial TF2 Server

Player Capacity: 32

IP: 91.216.250.13:27015

Death Run has been a huge success for many modded servers and it’s a great game for communities to play together.

Skial.com runs an awesome 32 player server that is friendly and welcoming to new players.

They also run loads of other community servers that host different game modes but this was one of my favorites.

In Death Run you can either take on the assault course of traps or be the mastermind behind them, waiting patiently to spring them upon your friends.

The game mode had loads of courses and traps that have been created by the community, which can be uploaded to your server.

However Skial is in control of the courses that they run for their players.

If you like the sounds of this game mode you should consider starting your own community server with Deathrun installed.

4. Server Name: Zombie Escape – Otaku.TF

Zombie Escape Server

Player Capacity: 32

IP: 94.130.49.180:27050

If you’re bored of playing against other players and balanced bots you may want to consider joining the “Otaku Gaming TF community” which hosts the awesome game mode known as Zombies.

During a game of zombies you will need to work together with your teammates to survive waves of zombies.

A good choice is to choose the engineer class so you can build a wall of turrets to help you cull the on-coming waves.

Zombies is a nice addition to Team fortress 2 and it’s fantastic for players who like wave survival games.

5. Server Name: IdleServer.com | TF2 [PROP HUNT] | Dallas

Idle Server TF2

Player Capacity: 32

IP: 45.35.176.5:27070

If you’re looking for a classic game of prop hunt you should join the Idle Server community.

You will need to use your skills as a hunter to find the props hidden around that map. Don’t leave any stone Unturned and eliminate all props before the timer runs out.

Alternatively if you’re playing as a prop you will need to become a master of stealth and find the best hiding places to avoid the killing blow of the hunter.

Teams are divided at the start of each round but you will have a chance to play on both teams.

Start Your Own Community Server

Community servers are created using dedicated hosting that allows players to add server mods and customise their Team Fortress 2 experience.

This can either be done locally by hosting a server on your own computer if you have the resources to do this or by renting a server from a third party hosting company.

Team Fortress 2 servers are relatively cheap and you can rent one for under $10 a month which is a great starting price.

If you want to start a community server you should first read my guide “Choosing a TF2 server hosting provider” it will list all the things you need to consider before renting a server.
