Finding a Team Fortress 2 Team To Join
Last updated: January 15, 2021

Finding a team to join in Team Fortress 2 is pretty simple if you don’t mind playing with new people.
When you join a game lobby you have the option to join the red or the blue team.
You may not have a choice if one of the teams has too many players.
However, there are plenty of lobbies to join so I would suggest refreshing the lobby if you’re unhappy with the option you have been given.
Matchmaking
Matchmaking is a fantastic feature in Team Fortress and it allows you to jump in to games quickly if you are a solo player. It can also be an excellent place to find new steam friends. I would suggest joining lobbies and adding the top players in the lobby. This will help you find friends that are good at the game.
In my opinion good players usually have a dedicated team that they often play with. You may have to prove yourself to join their team but if you have played well in a match then your performance will be noticed. Send them a friend request via steam and tell them that you are looking for serious players to team up with. This has worked for me in the past and can help improve your in game skills.
Steam Community
The Steam Community is the best place to find a team to join. The game page has a dedicated thread titled “Looking for Players”. Players post daily, looking for teams to join, casual games and members to join competitive teams. The forum is not as active as it used to be when the game first came out. But there is at least 5 – 10 new posts a day, which gives you plenty of opportunities to make new friends.
Check out the link below for the “Looking for Players” thread:

If you’re looking for something more specific than it may be worth creating your own post. Start by introducing yourself and giving a brief overview of what you’re looking for. The more specific you are with the details, the more likely you will be matched with the right types of players.
Invite Your Friends
Team Fortress 2 is a free to play game. Which makes it a very good starting game for any of your friends that have just started PC gaming. The specifications are also pretty low, so the game can be downloaded on most non gaming computers and laptops.
Why not suggest that your friends check it out using:
- Steam Invites
- Facebook Messenger
- Social Media Post
- Twitch streaming
- Word of Mouth
It may take some of your friends a little convincing, but if they like to play other team based games like Call of Duty, DOTA, Counter Strike etc. Team fortress may awaken that competitive nature inside of them.
Conclusion
Team Fortress 2 is a brilliant game to play with your friends.
It requires communication, strategy and coordinated teamwork to dominate each round. If you manage to get your friends to join or make new friends by using my 3 suggestions you will have more fun. Guaranteed. Playing a team game on your own can feel very empty at times. It’s often the community around you that boosts your player experience.
