Promoting Your TF2 Server
Last updated: October 20, 2020
Promoting your TF2 server (that you may have found using my other guide) can be a difficult task if you don’t know where to start. There are several ways you can make a success of promoting your server and building a new following of players.
Throughout my research of promoting my own TF2 server I found these methods very useful. If used to the full potential they can even provide you with an income!
Creating Promotional Material
The first method used is promotional material. You need to have a lot of dedicated content to TF2 to entice players to click for more. This could include:
A visual form of information like videos is the most user friendly and interactive way of gaining followers to your server. Using platforms like Vimeo and YouTube to upload your video could even make you an income once you have amassed enough followers and views. I personally think it is a fantastic marketing tool and is used to this day by a lot of gaming companies and players themselves.
If you’re a creative person and know how to edit images, Adobe Photoshop or other editing software it is a great idea to start creating your own branding for your server. Make a logo, a server banner and imagery to make your brand look professional and polished.
I myself as a player of games like TF2 and ARMA 3 always get drawn to well constructed and very active servers that look like they are professionally run and maintained. You don’t want yours to blend in with the other thousands of servers. It takes time to build high quality content and create promotional material but it is always worth while in achieving your end goal.
Then the second method is:
Using Free Server Lists
Promoting your server on a server list can be tricky if you’re not really wanting to invest in a premium account.
The listing sites are very overpopulated as it is and they are being added daily so if you don’t make your server stand out it will be lost amongst the hundreds of sites.
Here are some recommendations to make your server listing stand out:
- Create A Interesting Name
- Create A Eye Catching Banner
- Use Unique Graphics
- Add Several Tags To Your Server
- Use Stop Motion/ Moving Imagery
I know for a fact that I am always drawn to the server listings that have moving images. It requires some technical skill to make this type of banner but animated banners have so much more information in them and I feel really boost your chances compared to others.
If you create a animated banner then you should be including:
- The Server Name
- Server IP
- Server Location
- Eye Catching Graphics
- Community Website Or Group
- PVP or PVE
Investing time into checking in on your server listing preferably daily and seeing how you can make any changes will improve your ranking over time.
Get players to up vote your server
If your friends play on your server ask them to up vote your listing on the server pages. Up voting is by far the most productive way to gain ranking on a listing site. The more up-votes and positive feedback you have the higher your position. Try to get votes daily to improve your ranking.
